Suggested Reading: Isaiah 10:1-4

Woe to those who make unjust laws,
to those who issue oppressive decrees,
to deprive the poor of their rights
and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people,
making widows their prey
and robbing the fatherless. (Isaiah 10:1-2)

God never turns a blind eye to injustice. Often, when we look around us, especially when we look at the corruption of those in power, it appears as if they continue on their way of robbery unabated. We see how they rob the very people they were supposed to protect and serve. We sometimes see how they pass laws that will oppress those who already have very little. Instead of protecting the rights of the weak in society, they prey on their ignorance. They prey on their helplessness and they rob even orphans of their rights. Now God asks them:

All these riches they have gained through unfair practices, how will these riches protect them in the day of judgment? Can they run to their great wealth for protection when they face the Lord of heaven’s armies? Where will they hide their riches?

Is there a place where they can escape the eyes of Him who created the eye? Their fate will be punishment forever and ever. The Lord’s passion against injustice will burn forever. Only those who have accepted the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus on their behalf will be considered blameless in God’s sight on that day. Only those who have turned their back on injustice and the wrong will be saved from the wrath of God. In the end, all that matters is faith (in Christ) which expressed itself through love for God and for others (see Galatians 5:6).

1 Woe to those who make unjust laws,
to those who issue oppressive decrees,
2 to deprive the poor of their rights
and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people,
making widows their prey
and robbing the fatherless.
3 What will you do on the day of reckoning,
when disaster comes from afar?
To whom will you run for help?
Where will you leave your riches?
4 Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives
or fall among the slain.

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,
his hand is still upraised. (Isaiah 10:1-4, New International Version)
